Positive Material Identification (PMI) is a method used to analyze the chemical composition of a material which aims to determine the type of material seen from the chemical composition by reading the percentage of elements in the material. This method is also generally needed when material identification documents (eg mill certificates, EN 10204 certificates) have been lost, or are unsure of the type of material supplied by the vendor.
